Communication Studies

The Communication Science Program at UPJ develops studies and learning in New Media Communication that can be applied to the life and development of urban communities, particularly in the fields of Public Relations and Journalism as minor concentrations. The minor concentration in Public Relations is a discipline focused on efforts to build, maintain, and enhance the image and reputation of an organization, company, or individual in society.

Aspects studied in the minor concentration of Public Relations include internal and external communication of the organization, professional ethics in Public Relations, publicity media ranging from conventional to digital media, as well as communication programs in various forms such as social and digital campaigns. The field of Public Relations requires the ability to quickly adapt to the changing business and media environment.

In the Communication Science Program, the Journalism minor concentration studies the process of collecting, writing, and delivering news information to the public through various media. In the digital era, journalists also need to understand how news can be conveyed through various platforms, including social media. Therefore, the Journalism minor concentration also studies journalistic ethics, especially in the face of rapid technological advancements and media changes. It is essential for journalists to uphold principles of ethics and accuracy in carrying out their duties as guardians of public information.
